First Trimester
1. Listening to the Patient
Analytic understanding broadens and deepens the way we listen. Topics include: the various forms of unconscious processes such as latent content, derivative references, symbols, dreams, fantasies, and transference, and how these processes influence and affect our work.
2. The Therapeutic Relationship: The Beginning.
This course will emphasize practical examples and clinical applications of the concepts from the companion course, Listening to the Patient.

3. Listening to Ourselves.
Attuning the listening process to one's own unconscious
processes and how this affects what we hear and what we do not hear. Countertransference and the dynamics of the therapeutic relationship will be
explored.
4. The Therapeutic Relationship: The Impact of the Therapist.
This course will
focus on practical examples and clinical applications of the concepts from the companion course, Listening to Ourselves.

5. Putting it all Together
The practical implications of psychoanalytic understanding in the therapeutic relationship and in the work place.
6. Building and Managing a Practice Using Psychoanalytic
Principles.
This course is designed to assist the practitioner with strengthening the therapeutic alliance in any setting, and with building and managing a private practice. Topics will include: time management; fee setting and collecting; missed sessions; lateness; illness; and vacations.
